Celebrities’ First Jobs…My comment on Oprah Winfrey Show

I felt compelled to comment on Celebritie’s First Jobs post.  I had a connection to this episode.  Below is what I commented with some editing.

I started babysitting for cash about 11 yrs old.  My first official job was at a nursing home when I was in 8th grade, worked there part-time on weekends for a couple of years.  Out of the blue, my mom told me she got me a job working with her at the nursing home.  I worked as a kitchen aide.  What I learned working there:

  1. Special K+half&half+sugar=favorite breakfast
  2. I love reading romance novels. My first romance novel was loaned to me by a co-worker, after that I was hooked on romance novels and reading.
  3. I learned being a naturally skinny kid does not keep you skinny if I keep eating delicious fatty food= cinnamon rolls, bacons, Special K with half&half, cakes, pies and so much more.
  4. Gain weight too fast gives you stretch marks.
  5. I learned what it felt like to have my first crush.
  6. Respect and cherish your elders/grandparents. They are so knowledgeable and wise. You are missing out when you don’t spend time with them. I never knew my paternal or maternal grandparents. I’m sad when I think about it.
  7. Most folks living in a nursing home are lonely because their families don’t visit often enough or they don’t have any families at all. Very sad.
  8. I learned to have compassion and empathy for the elders.

I learned a lot from my first job.  I continue to work through high school, college and after. Grateful my mom got me my first job.  BTW… This is my first time commenting on the Oprah Show.  I had to share my first job experience.  Also, I am a contestant auditioning for my OWN show under cooking, cooking 2 connect with Kate
